“I’ll never forget the phone call from the doctor’s office notifying me that there were problems in my blood work.
I knew my life would change forever from that day forward. I could never have known how much, or in what ways, both positive and negative. Over time I began to recognize a growing strength in me that I thought only existed in others I had admired. What surprised me most was when I realized that strength had actually been there in me all along.”

While our individual experiences with lupus often vary widely, we all share one important thing in common.

Both literally and figuratively, lupus is a disease that tests us. Physically, emotionally and spiritually, we are TESTED
on a daily basis. From the time we wake in the morning until the time we go to bed (even during sleep), it is a part of our lives, in our blood.

It is this aspect of lupus that unites us, and has helped make us who we are. Regardless of whether as individuals we’ve dealt with our diagnosis with fear, anger, confusion or hope, until there is a cure we will all share the collective experience of being TESTED by this disease.

With this in mind, I have sought to compile
the stories of young people living with lupus, along with the stories of those who love them, with the hope that our collective voice will serve to educate, encourage and inspire
others, both with lupus and without. the concept
